INTRODUCTION

Throughout these last few years, university students have been some of the most prejudiced by the financial difficulties and by the measures taken by the government in education, namely the rises of the value of tuitions and the cutback on the number and value of scholarships. According to the latest inquiry developed by the University of Madeira Students’ Union (AAUMa), over half the students are experiencing financial struggles and a great number of these students are pondering dropping out of college for that reason.

Therefore, it is essential the existence of projects such as the Supply Scholarship, a project that has the objective of helping the neediest students by supplying them with several school items, through the revenues raised by AAUMa’s several other projects, thus reducing one of the main expenses related to education.
